Life is a Story
Mark Koehler has written a very helpful (and readable) guide to writing your memoir. Packed with good advice, carefully chosen excerpts and writing exercises, this book is a roadmap for anyone who wants to write the story of their life and leave a legacy for future generations.
I’ll admit to feeling a bit nervous when this job arrived. Editing a book about writing has its own particular challenges. Thankfully, Mark was both an excellent writer and someone who was very open to suggestions. The topic was also close to my heart – I’ve written a travel memoir and run workshops on life writing – and I learned a lot as I worked. When my copies turned up, I was really pleased to see that it had also been very professionally designed and printed, and even includes a handy list of resources and a very useful index.
If writing a memoir is on your bucket list, as well as buying the book (in softcover or a fabulous, longlasting hardcover edition), you could sign up to a mentoring package at Mark’s website.
“Thanks again for your wonderful copyediting assistance. It runs deeper than grammar or syntax; a writer needs the moral support from someone else on the same wavelength; it’s a subtle kind of support on offer, and you certainly provided this.”
