This is the eleventh title I have written and designed for Wild Dog Books. These non-fiction children’s books use large format images and carefully chosen words to make complex ideas simple for young readers.

I have a seven-year-old friend who reads the manuscripts for me before I hand them over to Wild Dog. The last few books have been about the human senses, and she was starting to get frustrated.

‘Lorna, you keep writing “The nerves send the message to the brain” and “The brain does this” and “The brain does that”. But how does the brain do that?’

I really had no choice. I had to write this one for her.

Lorna has a gift for knowing what young readers want, writing the right words, and then marrying them to the right images to carry the message effectively in a way that entertains and intrigues the reader. She has the rare ability to execute the brief while never losing sight of what will really interest the reader.
